JORGE THERIAGA, always happy to play in Greece, as he used to say, since the doctor from Lisbon – Portugal was standing in the podium in all the three UMB/CEB World Cups organized by the Greeks, on 1995 (in Piraeus second after Daniel Sanchez), on 1996 (in Athens third) and on 1998 (in Corfu second after Dick Jaspers!!!)

Below, awarded by the president of EFOM 1994-95 Mr. Thodoris Kouremenos, the charismatic and very successful businessman, passionate about our sport, who tought us not to be afraid to dare, and to think big….

Before he resigned for personal reasons, he ordered and paid himself, to a well known professional company, a statistic analysis proving the big popularity of the game in Greece.

From that day on, with the numbers of that analysis in our hands, we started facing media, sponsors and politicians, much more confident …. And successful!!!

EDDY MERCKX . Everybody talks about his new book titled “All I know about 3cushions”
Bellow, the man with the excellent stroke, in a young age, in one of his first International successes….
Third in the CEB/UMB WORLD CUP GREECE 1995 – SAKKAS BILLIARDS , Eddy is awarded by the Vice-Mayor of Piraeus, mr. Vavourakis.
For sure, this quite and modest champion, is about to surprise us with his knowledge, systems and experience of the game….
A book that every carom player needs !

This tournament came out after two years of really hard work, analysis and study of every aspect that could be important , in order Greek Billiards would succeed in all, or at least to some of it’s goals…
Imagine that still those days playing billiards in Greece was forbitten by the law for young guys less than 18 years old !!!

Αδιάκοπα από το 1992 , αγόγγυστα μέχρι το 2014 , και χωρίς λόγο αφού δεν χρειάστηκε ποτέ να συστηθω στον χώρο του μπιλιαρδου…..

Μόνον σας παρακαλώ, μην με κάνετε να αισθάνομαι ότι πήγαν όλα στράφι…..

BILLIARD WORLD” May 1995 Issue 2

Daniel Sanchez in a very young age , winner of the CEB/UMB WORLD CUP “Irinis & Filias” stadium , organized by Sakkas Billiards.

The luxurious Greek Billiard magazine for Carom and Pool , attracts the attention of people you always need , supports the dreams of players , and the booming of country’s National Federation ….

The magazine survived aprox 15 years ,the idea and care of the publication of the two first issues belonged to Alexis Balomenos and Thodoris Kouremenos , president of EFOM 1994-95 . George Sakkas was taking care of the financial risk.
Down on the left , Kostas Papakonstantinou , one of the very best 3cushions Greek players , and the announcement of his national title.
Down on the right, the National 9ball championship ,in which one of the strongest Athenian , Vangelis Koveos is leading after three rounds.
Glorious days for Greek billiards were about to come soon , thanks to the success of the young Pool and Carom players in the International Juniors level !

Arie Weijenburg , this amazing three cushions player, is not with us anymore…
RIP Gentle Giant!!!
Few memories written by a Greek….

Δυστυχώς απεβίωσε πριν λίγες ημέρες αυτός ο πολύ σημαντικός για το Ολλανδικό μπιλιάρδο παίκτης, που έδειξε κυρίως την κλάση του από το 1987 μέχρι το τέλος της δεκαετίας του 90, κερδίζοντας μεγάλα ατομικά και ομαδικα τουρνουά στην χώρα του και πετυχαίνοντας σπουδαίες διεθνείς νίκες σαν μέλος του επαγγελματικού ομίλου BWA…

Ο Arie Weijenburg ήταν μόνον 65 ετών…..

1961 Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα τρισποντες…. Άμστερνταμ…..
Νικητής ο σπουδαίος Περουβιανος Αdolfo Suarez, που εδω συνεχίζει την παράδοση της Λατινοαμερικανικης σχολής!
Ειναι η πρωτη και μοναδική φορά που το Περού κερδίζει Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα, και δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι αλλιώς, αφού όπως μας πληροφορεί ο Cayo Bardales Schrader, σε αυτήν την μικρή χώρα της Νότιας Αμερικής, υπήρχαν τότε μόνον δεκα(!) τραπέζια μπιλιάρδου, ο δε Suarez πηγε να παίξει στο Άμστερνταμ με….. δανεική στεκα!!! Λιγο πριν ξεσπάσει η καταιγίδα…..
Θα ήθελα να ήμουν εκεί, ανάμεσα σε παίκτες, θεατές, διοικητικούς, για να δω με τα μάτια μου και να ακούσω με τα αυτιά μου, εαν καποιος καταφερε να προβλέψει τί επιφύλασσε το μπιλιαρδικο μελλον, σε αυτόν τον νεαρό, τον τρίτο από αριστερά, που εδώ στο Άμστερνταμ, περιορίστηκε στην ταπεινη έβδομη, στους εννέα συμμετέχοντες θέση…
