1984 till 1987.
*1984.Από αυτήν την πρώτη διοργάνωση της ΕΦΟΜ θα κρατήσουμε κυριως τον τελικό, για πολλούς λόγους…
Η παρουσία εκει του Λευτέρη Κορνηλακη αποτελεί έκπληξη, και μου επιτρέπει να αισιοδοξώ ότι θα κερδίσω και το τρίτο τουρνουά του Τριαθλου που διοργανωθηκε προς τιμήν του Χάρη Γλενη.
Δεν θα ήμουν τόσο αισιόδοξος εάν αντίπαλος μου ήταν ο Κωστας Παπαγεωργιου, ο Γιάννης Κρικελας, ή ο Βασίλης Ηλιόπουλος που ήταν σε φόρμα εκείνα τα χρόνια…

THREE CUSHIONS IN THE LAND OF FREE GAME!!!
This could be the title of the Greek Billiard Federation’s first official 3Cushion tournaments ….
We were lucky enough to have been gifted “Free game” maestros, treated like movie stars, in the forbidden (for less than 18 years old youngsters), dark and …suspicious atmosphere of billiard clubs, since the 50’s… But almost nothing else concerning other Carom disciplines…..
By the end of 70’s, thanks to the knowledge and the passion for the game of a few Greeks who came back from abroad, you could practice 3cushions mainly in two Athenian clubs:

Α)1984 the starting of…..και Β) 1984 Είναι πολύ δύσκολο να….
ΕΑΝ Η ΓΙΑΓΙΑ ΜΟΥ ΕΙΧΕ ΡΟΔΕΣ…
*1986 Πανευρωπαϊκό στην Λυών-Γαλλία.
Ήταν πολύ ξεχωριστές αυτές οι ημέρες για το Ελληνικό μπιλιάρδο…
Ταυτόχρονα με την έναρξη του πρωταθλήματος, “σκάει” ο πυρηνικος αντιδραστήρας στο Τσερνόμπιλ, και ο άνεμος στέλνει το ραδιενεργό σύννεφο προς την Γαλλια.

Στο “Ελευθερο”, στο μόνο παιγνίδι που μας άφησαν οι….. πρόγονοί μας, οι επιδόσεις έχουν ξεφύγει εντελώς…

1984…. the starting year of our official championships…..the foundation of the Greek(Hellenic) Billiard Federation, leaded by Athanasios Roufos-Kanakaris and Loukas Sideras.
Since lately the old official results disappeared, I felt that I had to do something about it…
Below I begin with what I’ve found till this day in “free game” section….
I will later continue with few words for each competition, and results of all carom disciplines.
Please note that still, during this period, “Free game” was the most popular game all over Greece, and Cadre 47/2 the name of the competition among experienced players!

ΙΟΥΛΙΟΣ ΤΟΥ 1999, η δημοσίευση του έγκυρου διεθνούς περιοδικού έχει ιστορική σημασία για δύο τουλάχιστον λόγους…
Ο ένας λόγος βέβαια είναι το ότι το συγκεκριμένο πρωτάθλημα τρίσποντου μπιλιάρδου είναι το τελευταίο του αιώνα…
Λίγους μήνες αργότερα, θα γίνει η αλλαγή φρουράς, με τους δύο γνωστους νεαρούς πρωταθλητές, τον Νίκο Πολυχρονοπουλο και τον Φιλιππο Κασιδοκωστα να ανεβαίνουν και να μην εγκαταλείπουν έκτοτε, πεισματικά και δίκαια, τις κορυφες του Ελληνικού και του διεθνούς 3σποντου μπιλιάρδου! DANIEL SANCHEZ In the beginning of his long and glorious career…

The Mayor of Piraeus Mr.Stelios Logothetis awarded him for his winning in the CEB/UMB WORLD CUP – BY SAKKAS BILLIARDS.
During the same year , Sanchez won also the European championship for Juniors in Budapest , stopping the serie of the winner 1993 and 1994 Brian Knudsen , who ended up fifth.

His compatriot Dion Nielin was second , while Nick Polychronopoulos made me very proud with his third place!

That was also the beginning of Nick’s professional career as an International Top player….
His path , like every Greek’s , was the hard one since 3cushions started here just a few years earlier , in comparison with his opponents , and the 100-150 years of their country’s experience ….

But we were very determined to make it at that time….
Being united was the key , except of the right moves of course…..
And the most important: manufacturers , importers , traders , club owners , and anyone who was making profits out of Billiards , was ready to trust each other and offer….

JORGE THERIAGA, always happy to play in Greece, as he used to say, since the doctor from Lisbon – Portugal was standing in the podium in all the three UMB/CEB World Cups organized by the Greeks, on 1995 (in Piraeus second after Daniel Sanchez), on 1996 (in Athens third) and on 1998 (in Corfu second after Dick Jaspers!!!)

Below, awarded by the president of EFOM 1994-95 Mr. Thodoris Kouremenos, the charismatic and very successful businessman, passionate about our sport, who tought us not to be afraid to dare, and to think big….

Before he resigned for personal reasons, he ordered and paid himself, to a well known professional company, a statistic analysis proving the big popularity of the game in Greece.

From that day on, with the numbers of that analysis in our hands, we started facing media, sponsors and politicians, much more confident …. And successful!!!

EDDY MERCKX . Everybody talks about his new book titled “All I know about 3cushions”
Bellow, the man with the excellent stroke, in a young age, in one of his first International successes….
Third in the CEB/UMB WORLD CUP GREECE 1995 – SAKKAS BILLIARDS , Eddy is awarded by the Vice-Mayor of Piraeus, mr. Vavourakis.
For sure, this quite and modest champion, is about to surprise us with his knowledge, systems and experience of the game….
A book that every carom player needs !

This tournament came out after two years of really hard work, analysis and study of every aspect that could be important , in order Greek Billiards would succeed in all, or at least to some of it’s goals…
Imagine that still those days playing billiards in Greece was forbitten by the law for young guys less than 18 years old !!!
